According to a 2023 WEF study, 86% of business leaders believe there will be a catastrophic cybersecurity event by 2025, and 43% think it will have a “material impact” on their business. And if recent high-profile incidents provide any indication, such an impact may entail significant loss of revenue and customer trust.
Despite this, a 2023 Cisco study shows that only 15% are ready for such an event. Some of this disconnect may be attributed to attitudes that presume such incidents only happen to others, often resulting in a “wait-and-see” approach. Or, leaders may be focusing on other initiatives and don’t view cybersecurity events as priority, thus delaying important initiatives.
